Shelter
I collect aluminum cans to drop off at Friends for Animals which is a no kill animal shelter. I stop in and pet as many animals as I can. I usually spend a lot of time in the cat and kitten room. They are always so fun and they love the attention. Yesterday, I brought my SLR camera and took some pictures. The cats are easier to take pictures of because they aren't jumping all over you. They do get into your lap but they stay still once they are content. The dogs are so happy to see you they bark and jump uncontrollably the whole time.
I must say, it is hard on my hart to see these precious animals who desperately need a home. I want to bring them all home with me. I just cannot imagine any of them who deserve to die or spend the rest of their lives in a shelter. Although, this is a great shelter with the most caring volunteers. While I was there, a farmer looking guy shows up with a orange and white kitty and they turn him away. I notice a little dog named Maui who has been there for 2 years. Last night I had a hard time sleeping because I was worried about the fate of these animals. Sometimes, I wonder why God made me so sensitive to animals. I feel it is a curse because many people could care less about the unwanted animals of the world. I guess we each have a soft spot for something.
I realize that people will always be irresponsible with their pets. It costs quite a bit of money to get them fixed and take care of them properly. It must be difficult for the ladies who work there to control their emotions. But they seem to take it all in stride. They are giving baths, shots and making sure each animal is getting cared for. They talk to the people who come in and try to inform them of commitment of adopting one of these wonderful animals.
When I retured home, Mike was searching around for stow aways. He knows my weakness and he is always afraid that I will come home with another stray. I came home and hugged my three cats and told them how much they are loved. It makes me realize that there are millions of happy pets in homes with people who truly love them. When I decide to add another pet. I will go to the shelter and spend some time with the animals. When I find that pet that is a perfect fit. I will bring her home.
