Beagle
I slept in this morning because of a long day of flying yesterday. It felt really good to get some rest and wake up to cooler temperatures. A cold front just passed and the air is clear and refreshing. My kitties love to go outside when I am home and check out the plants and bugs. I let them out and we all were hanging on the front porch when this cute little beagle walks up to the porch to check us out. Shelly and Reagan looked really pissed off and hid. Hoover was kind of scared but didn't hide. He just stands there with his thick furr sticking out all over the place. I walk slowly over to the dog to see if he is friendly. He has no collar and he isn't acting aggressive. But now he spies Hoover and he wants to check him out. I am trying to stop what could shortly become a crazy mess of scared running cats. It is true that I have much experience in cat herding. But when a dog is involved, someone usually ends up getting scratched. I grab the dog and pick him up. He is heavy for a beagle. He actually seems to like this. I carry him inside and tell Mike I need help. We put the dog in the garage. Bring the cats inside. Let the dog outside again. Mike is pissed because the dog has marked both cars and continues to mark the house and all the trees. He is not fixed and he is making quite a mess.
Evidently, this dog is found in our neighborhood quite often. His family lives in some rentals across the creek. I called some neighbors and they didn't know how to find his family. They said that they usually come here to pick him up. I took him to my neighbors house and he tried to hump their dog. Then he stayed on their porch for quite some time.
Mike and I had Monday night mixer (bowling) and we went to dinner at Taco Cabana. I bowled with 4 guys that average around 200. I have a book average of 124. We beat the other team by more than 600 pins. My scores were 151-154-193. When we arrived home I had a message from our neighbor, Brian. He said that the beagle was still on his porch. He didn't know what to do with it and he was going to bed.
I am an animal lover and I couldn't stand the thought of it hungry and cold. So I went to check on him. He was limping a little too. I came in and told Mike that he is freezing and hungry. He didn't want me to feed him because he would come to our house every time he gets loose. I am concerned and he offers to drive the doggie over to where we were told he lives. It is now almost 11pm. I am sitting in the back seat of the Tacoma with doggie on my lap. He was quite content being on my lap and licking my hands. We see an apartment with lights on and park in the road near that apartment. The beagle jumped into Mikes arms and Mike put him down on the ground. The beagle walked around alittle and then peed in the yard. Mike walked up to the door with the lights and open fence in the back yard. He knocked on the door. The dog follows him up to the doorway and sniffs around. Finally, he puts his feet up on the door and the door opens. The dog goes inside. Mike is trying to ask if anyone is there. We then have a decision to make. Try to get the dog out of their house or get out of there. We decide to leave. Obviously, they didn't lock the door. They aren't too worried about security. So we get the heck out of dodge and wonder if that is their dog? What will they think when they find the door open and the dog inside? Oh well, I would love to be the fly on the wall when they find the beagle. But we didn't want to stay around and get shot. We drove home laughing and wondering..........
